PRIDE 2023
2023 Pride Month will be hybrid - see you both in person & on Zoom! We'll have some of the classic LBNL Pride events like the flag raising and SF Pride parade, and new events like game night.
How to join ⏤ Links for virtual events will be emailed out to the Lambda Alliance mailing list once a week and are also included in the calendar events, which you can find by looking at the IDEA Calendar (DEI) and LBL events calendar. If you or your lab is a member of National Lab Pride then please email your local representative for the event details, which also get emailed out once a week.

Topic: Trans Anthropology

Speaker: Dr. Eric Plemons
Eric Plemons is Associate Professor in the School of Anthropology at the University of Arizona, where he directs the medical anthropology concentration and certificate programs and serves as co-chair of the Transgender Studies Research Cluster.
Dr. Plemons is a medical anthropologist whose work focuses on the politics and practice of transgender medicine and surgery. His work on this topic has ranged from a long-term ethnographic investigation of facial feminization surgery, to examinations of the impacts of religious hospital ownership on transgender care, to challenges in developing a new generation of surgical specialists, to the infrastructural impediments to opening new transgender health programs in hospitals, and beyond.

In honor of Pride Month, please join the IDEA office and the Lambda Alliance for a special one-hour introduction to the Lean In Allyship at Work Program.
This introductory workshop will give you an interactive and thought-provoking look at what it means to be an ally in the workplace. It will guide you through an exploration of privilege, help you recognize your positional power at work, and let us develop a shared understanding of allyship.

Positively Exhausted - Stories of Toxic Positivity in the Workplace
Join us for a talk as Simone Lima investigates “toxic positivity”—the idea that the best way to cope with a challenging situation is to put a positive spin on it—is a coping strategy often promoted in companies. Using interviews and rich storytelling from her own experiences, Simone Lima explores the effects of toxic positivity on employees, especially women, and on company culture
ETA Pride Trivia Event

Join the Energy Technologies Area for their annual celebration of LGBTQIA+ excellence via a trivia contest!
The contest will take the form of a jeopardy-style trivia game based around history and current events of the SGM community. The event will be an educational and celebratory experience for members of the community and allies alike. All lab employees are welcome to join!

SF PRIDE PARADE
June 25th at 11AM
Join the Lambda Alliance, their friends and families and walk in the SF Pride Parade! Experience the love and energy from the crowd as you help showcase Berkeley Lab’s commitment to Diversity and Inclusion.
Join the Berkeley Lab and the Lambda Alliance as we showcase our organization to the public at the San Francisco Pride Festival.
VOLUnTEER
Serve as an ambassador for Berkeley Lab and its scientific research, Help explain some hands-on demos and displays, Discuss ways that people can engage with and support the Lab (career and internship opportunities), Collect contact information for “Elements”, and Field any questions we get from visitors to our booth.
Be a part of the excitement by decorating the Lab’s Pride parade float! Volunteers are needed on Sunday morning to decorate the float.
We hope to have 100 volunteers help us represent the Department of Energy’s collective commitment to diversity in a very public way. You will be marching alongside the Lab’s pride parade float and representing Berkeley Lab. All are welcome to march with us, so please feel free to bring your friends and family to march as a community that supports our commitment to science and diversity.
